The concert cycle PLEČNIK & A-CAPPELLA, which has been performed five times from 2020 to 2024 with great success, brings together music and architecture. More specifically, it brings together vocal music and architecture of the great Plečnik, whose works were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021. Each year from June to October (once per month), you can listen to five renowned vocal ensembles and choirs at five of Plečnik's most picturesque locations in Ljubljana.
Through the dialogue between Plečnik's architecture and vocal masterpieces, we aim to enrich the listeners' experience of music and provide them with a true artistic experience for both the eye and ear. Among the Plečnik venues where concerts have already been held over the years are: the Great Reading Room and the atrium of the National and University Library in Ljubljana (NUK), the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Ljubljana (Šiška), the Church of St. Michael in the Marsh in Črna Vas, the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius in Ljubljana (Bežigrad), the Cobbler's Bridge in Old Ljubljana, the garden behind Plečnik's house in Trnovo, as well as the park in front of the Glasbena matica Ljubljana along the Slovenian Composers' Avenue (Vegova Street), which was designed by Plečnik in 1932.
In recent years, notable performers have included: the Slovenian Octet, the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, the gospel choir Bee Geesus, the Jazzva Ensemble, the KGBL Chamber Choir, the Ingenium Ensemble, the Ljubljana Madrigalists, the Carmen Manet Choir, the APZ Tone Tomšič, the Dekor Chamber Choir, the Orfej Chamber Choir, the Obala Koper Mixed Choir, the Chamber Choir of the Glasbena matica Ljubljana, the Megaron Chamber Choir, the Ave Chamber Choir, the Elinor Vocal Ensemble, the Gallina Vocal Group, the Emil Komel Mixed Youth Choir from Italy and the Lalá Vocal Ensemble from Austria.
